Jacob Stein is one of the country’s most recognized authorities on asset protection law. For more than 25 years he has helped over two thousand clients protect their wealth from the claims of plaintiffs, creditors, and government agencies. His clients come to him facing business lawsuits, auto accidents, loan and personal guarantee defaults, and government investigations, along with the full range of threats that put personal and business assets at risk, and he builds the structures that keep those assets out of reach.

He is the managing partner of Aliant, LLP in Los Angeles. Asset protection is the core of his practice, and he also frequently deals with cross-border tax and wealth matters for clients whose lives and businesses cross borders.

His clients range from small business owners to some of the world’s most prominent families, and include real estate investors and developers, physicians, technology founders, and private equity funds across the United States, Europe, and Asia.

Jacob is a California Certified Tax Law Specialist, is ranked in the Chambers and Partners High Net Worth Guide and holds the AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell. He has been named a Super Lawyer by Los Angeles Magazine for over fifteen years, holds the TEP designation as a full member of STEP, and is listed among the top 1% of America’s Most Honored Professionals. He earned his law degree from the University of Southern California and a Master of Laws in Taxation from Georgetown University.

He is the author of three books, including Asset Protection for California Residents, the only book of its kind focused specifically on California law, and A Lawyer’s Guide to Asset Protection Planning in California, along with dozens of scholarly articles and technical manuals. He spent ten years as an adjunct professor of taxation in the graduate tax program at California State University, Northridge, and has taught more than 1,000 continuing education seminars to attorneys, CPAs, and other professionals on asset protection, trust law, and tax law.Jacob’s approach is straightforward. He does not sell pre-packaged products, and instead develops custom, no-nonsense structures for each client. He combines disciplines most lawyers keep separate, asset protection, tax, estate planning, and cross-border planning, into structures that actually hold, and he gives clients a straight answer about what protects their wealth and what only looks like it does.

Hasmik oversees the drafting of complex legal documents that help clients protect their assets and achieve long-term planning goals. She also works closely with clients to ensure they fully understand the structures we implement, making the legal process not only effective but empowering.

With over a decade of hands-on experience in estate planning, asset protection, and business transactions, including experience gained while earning her law degree, Hasmik brings both depth and dedication to her practice. A native Angeleno, she enjoys spending her free time with family and friends in the city she proudly calls home.
